Now *this* is a mashup. Girl Talk has spent years ruining the good name of the mashup by merely placing obvious rap lyrics on top of snippits of well-known pop songs. IMHO, a proper mashup finds a way for two or more pieces of art to intertwine and create something completley new, while simultaneously increasing your understanding and appreciation of the source material. Recontextualization is required. Rerharmonizaiton is the icing on the cake.
On another level, it simply boils down the the fact that a proper mashup has the potential to replace the original as “that song you can’t get out of your head”.

We need to reformulate the union movement into a modern Social-Network structure similar to Facebook, perhaps called CitizensWorkbook for managing employer behaviors such that corporate behaviors are forced to reflect the needs of the society, the workers and the citizens who have democratically elected to utilize corporate institutional structures as their preferred method of general wealth production.
Corporations need to be reminded that they have received only a conditional mandate to operate our systems of production and consumption. They operate at the pleasure and democratic will of the citizenry. Just as you and I can be fired for failing to produce result for our respective employers, corporate institutions can be fired or disciplined by the democratic citizenry for failing to meet their collective mandate to produce an acceptable level of general public wealth, health and prosperity.
Just as citizens in the Middle East have finally begun to through off their fears and demand democratic reforms, we need to through off the Madison Avenue, Public Perception Management, propaganda machine that for far too long has succeeded in convincing us that the democratic citizenry should serve at the pleasure of corporations and their profits when, in fact, in a democracy it is the corporations that are mandated to serve at the pleasure of the citizenry.
